Difference between a union and non union electrician
Updated On: Apr 18, 2019

In most cases there is very little difference between a union electrician and a non union electrician.

Differences
·        The biggest differences in most cases are wages and benefits. Union electricians earn on average 40% more per hour than non union electricians. This does not mean that non electricians are 40% less skilled than union electricians, but union electricians bargain collectively with their contractors for higher wages and benefits.

·        Personal values
·        Outside of work activities (sports, vacations, hobbies, and clubs)
·        Work ethics
·        Household budgets
·        College tuition for dependents
·         Emergency expenses
There are far more likes than differences. Roughly 45% to 50% of union electricians were once non union workers. There are far more reasons to look into becoming a union electrician than not. And the best part of all is, if being a union electrician is not for you, you can always leave.
