What is the next available application date(s)? The VCJATC has indefinitely suspended the application process. We expect to resume accepting applications in August 2020.
What is the last date that I can apply to become an apprentice? The VCJATC has indefinitely suspended the application process but we expect to resume accepting applications in August 2020 for the class scheduled to begin in July 2021.
Where do I need to go to complete an application? Applications must be made in person at our Training Center located at 201 Bernoulli Circle Unit A, Oxnard (Office is Upstairs).
What Documents are Required at the Time of Application? The following ORIGINAL documents must be provided at the time of application: (PHOTOCOPIES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED) (ALL DOCUMENTS MUST BE U.S. DOCUMENTS IN ENGLISH OR INCLUDE A CERTIFIED INTERPRETATION AND EQUIVALENCY).
1. Driver’s License
2. U.S. Birth Certificate, U.S. Passport, or Permanent Resident Card.
3. High School Diploma or GED Equivalency
4. Official, Sealed Transcripts showing one of the following:
A. One year of high school algebra with a passing grade
B. One semester of college algebra with a passing grade
5. If you served in the U.S. Military please provide a copy of your final DD-214.
6.If you have a minimum of 4000 hours of documented electrical construction experience, please provide Documentation of Electrical Construction Experience with a licensed C10 Electrical Contractor. This documentation should be provided in the form of paycheck stubs, W2 Forms, or certified payroll records
What if I don't have all of the required documents at the Time of Application? If you do not have all required documentation an application form will not be issued. Please refrain from applying unless you have all required documentation.
What is the next step after I have completed an application? Upon submitting an application the applicant will be scheduled for the next available Aptitude Test. The Aptitude Test is a 2 ½ hour exam which covers Reading Comprehension and Algebra. Tests are scheduled at various times during the year. YOU WILL NOT TEST ON THE SAME DAY AS YOU APPLY.
What can I do to prepare for the aptitude test? To better prepare for this exam the applicant may elect to visit www.electricprep.com to purchase test preparation materials.
What happens after the aptitude test? Upon successful completion of the aptitude test with a passing grade, the applicant will be scheduled for an Oral Interview with the Apprenticeship Committee. Applicants who complete the oral interview will be eligible for selection into the Apprenticeship Program. Prior to being indentured, applicants will be required to submit to and pass a drug test and may be required to complete a background check.
What happens if I didn't pass the aptitude test? If you do not pass the aptitude test you will need to wait a period of 6-months to re-apply. At the time of re-application All Original Documentation must be provided again.
What are my chances of being selected as an apprentice? We are selective. Each year approximately 200 applicants apply for the 10-20 openings. We are seeking men and women of all races who have demonstrated reliability and strong work ethic. A good applicant is one who has a record of having performed well in school, who has a good attitude, and is highly motivated to succeed. The electrical construction industry is a highly technical skilled trade that requires an intelligent, physically capable workforce that is able to adapt to the ever changing industry. Qualified applicants will be interviewed by both employer and employee representatives in an effort to select the best candidates.
